I am very excited to be teaching the Arts in 2024. This year we will be having lots of fun together doing visual art, dancing, media and more!
In the first semester, students are being taught visual arts using different materials and techniques that communicate ideas.
First term students share their artwork and ideas and cultural experiences by using different mediums such as collaging, gel plate stamping, weaving and hand printing.
The lower primary students have been looking at the Vincent van Gough art, the ‘Sunflower’. Students painted a shape of a Sunflower and cut it out. Using wool, they weave around the centre to give a 3D shape and colour. They frame the picture onto colour card and added a stem and leaves. The middle primary students have been learning about the art of calligraphy. The upper primary students learnt about Photomontage which involves combining two or more photographs to create a single image. They also learnt how to convey a story through collaging.
Students have also been learning the traditional dance such as barn dance and line dance from the early generation. The traditional dance is inherited from England, Ireland, and America. Students applied the elements of dance using skills such as clarity of movement, focus, facial expressions, and confidence. They developed accuracy, alignment strength, balance, coordination, and ability to move in time with the music.
Also learnt how important dance is in indigenous culture in Australia. Student watched and learnt how to do traditional indigenous dance recognising that dance is more than just movement, it is how they convey past generation stories, spirituality and their strong connection to the land.
