Hi, my name is Holly Keane, I am currently in my third year of teaching. I have worked at Northam Primary since 2022.

What are we learning Semester One 2024?

Literacy

This semester we are looking at Narrative writing, Persuasive Writing and Poetry.

We use the talk for writing program inline with our scope and sequences to provide high quality learning experiences for all students.

Numeracy

This Semester we are looking at Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Time, Shape, Graphing, Money and Location.

We use the Top Ten Maths Program which involves using a lot of manipulatives with a hands-on approach while applying our knowledge within each Numeracy topic.

Junior Elementary Mastery Mathematics (JEMM) 

During JEMM we practice a range of mathematic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, reading timetables and so much more!

HASS

This semester we are looking at Geography In this unit we will:

• Learn bout the difference between weather and climate
• Recognise the location of the different climate zones of Australia and the world
• Learn how to read a map and its key features
• Understand the difference between natural and human features
• Compare two states or territories and draw conclusions
• Learn how to draw and interpret a graph

Science

This semester we are looking at Physical Sciences

Using the Primary connections unit we will, Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate all things to do with heat sources in line with the Australian Curriculum.

Students will have plenty of hands on activities to do with how heat moves from one object to another, ways heat is produced and different ways to keep warm.
